J.R. Smith has made quite a name for himself with his recent antics on the court by untying opponents shoelaces during game action.
Miami Heat veteran forward Shane Battier was asked to comment on what his reaction would be if Smith attempted to pull the same stunt on him:
“Um, I would, my reaction would be, you know what — it’s time for me to retire from the NBA,” Battier said to laughter of what he would do if Smith ever got him with the same trick. Battier was to miss Thursday’s game with a strained left quadriceps, sitting out his fourth straight game and joining Mario Chalmers (Achilles tendinitis) as two starters scheduled to miss the game with the Knicks. “It’s about time for me to step away from the league, which I’m close to at this point,” he went on. “If that happens, I’d say it’s time for me to go.”
Sounds like Battier sees shoelace untying as writing in the sand that it’s time for him to retire.
