According to a column by Sam Amick of USA Today, there has been talk of the Lakers giving Kobe Bryant time off. Well, he should; Kobe is like 49 years old (36 but who’s counting?) and he’s been going non-stop this entire season. Part of that is on Kobe and part of that is on coach Byron Scott.
Nick Young offered up a solution for all of this:
“Hats off to (Bryant), still going out there every night and trying to do his best,” Young began before offering his solution. “Just give me the ball, and that’s what could happen. I’m always down to take over the load. Let me, let Wayne (Ellington) take a couple shots. But majority, just give me the ball.”
“(Bryant) still goes out there at night and tries to give his best. We need Kobe out there, and he knows it. But he don’t need to kill himself. That’s what I’m here for.”
Yes! We need MORE Nick Young! Possibly the most entertaining chucker outside of Stephen Curry (yes, he is a chucker) in the NBA today. But the thing is that you can make a case for Nick Young getting the ball more. He’s averaging 15.6 points per game and shooting 43 percent from three. Yes, he’s only shooting 42 percent overall but Kobe is only shooting 37 percent. Not to mention that Kobe is averaging 35 MINUTES PER GAME at age 36; Young is at a tidy 25 minutes per.
We’ll see what happens in the next few games. While it’s tough to take Swaggy P seriously, he actually has a very good point about taking more responsibility.
