Over the last eighteen NBA Finals, the series format has been 2-3-2 and many felt that it gave a disadvantage to the team coming in with the better record.
Well, it appears that the NBA has heard those issues and the NBA’S competition committee has decided to return it back to the old format of “2-2-1-1-1″.
The word came down from Boston Globe writer Steve Bulpett:
Sources: Competition Committee votes unanimously to return NBA Finals to 2-2-1-1-1 format. Owners' approval to come.

The last NBA Finals to follow the “2-2-1-1-1″ format was the 1984 NBA Finals between the Lakers and the Celtics. (In case you care, Celtics won in 7)
