Later tonight, the UFC will hold “UFC on Fox 5″ at Key Arena in Seattle, Washington and before the fights get started, one fighter decided to pay tribute to Sonics legends Gary Payton.
MMA fighter Benson Henderson during weigh-in’s decided to show some love to his former home by coming out in a 1996 NBA Finals Gary Payton jersey:
The folks over at the Seattle Times caught up with Benson and asked him about his jersey choice:
Henderson, who grew up in Federal Way, used to love watching the Sonics. Gary Payton was his favorite player, which seems appropriate — with the nickname “The Glove” and his trash-talking persona — for a fighter like Henderson.
“I used to watch the Sonics … and I could have never imagined fighting down on that arena floor,” Henderson said.
