Shawn Marion Will Not "Dance With The Stars"

With the fame of an NBA championship comes endorsement opportunities and television appearances; Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion got a pretty sweet offer to appear on ABC's "Dancing With The Stars".

Unfortunately for us all, the Matrix decided to not accept the invitation. We get more from TMZ:

Sources close to Shawn tell TMZ, “Dancing” sent him an official offer to appear on the show, but the NBA champ wants to make sure he’s 100% available in case the lockout ends early … so it’s a no go.

Oh well, I heard that Brian Cardinal has free time on his hands.

Kobe Bryant To Play In Washington DC Charity Soccer Game

As most know, Kobe Bryant spent some time overseas during his childhood and is a rather big fan of European soccer.

So it shouldn't surprise anyone that the Black Mamba will be partaking in a charity soccer game in Washington DC.

We get more from The Los Angeles Times:

The Lakers star is listed as one of the participants planning to play in the Celebrity Soccer Challenge on July 31 at Kastles Stadium in Washington D.C., an event sponsored by former U.S. women's soccer player Mia Hamm and her husband, ex-Dodger Nomar Garciaparra. Bryant's certainly no stranger to the pitch, as he played soccer growing up in Italy and is an avid fan of the Premier League's Barcelona and the Brazilian national team. He also attended the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

We wish him all the luck and hopefully Kobe will be able to show off his skills on the soccer pitch.

Ron Artest To Join Dancing With The Stars?

As previously noted on this website, we are fans of Ron Artest and the things that he does in his spare time.

Mr. Artest aka Metta World Peace is currently in talks with ABC to possibly be the first NBA player to join the cast of Dancing With The Stars.

We get more from TMZ:

Nothing's official yet -- but sources tell us, both Artest and "Dancing" producers have been in touch to hash out a possible deal ... and Ron's pretty excited about the prospect.

But here's the catch -- "Dancing" won't end 'til November and basketball season typically starts in October ... which means if the lockout ends early, Ron could be S.O.L.

That said, Ron could theoretically handle both commitments simultaneously -- because as TMZ first reported, "Dancing" producers are desperate for A-list talent

Hopefully, Metta World Peace will show his interplanetary dance moves in the upcoming season.

Dwayne Schintzius Got Traded From The Spurs Because Of His Haircut

In the world that is the National Basketball Association, players are traded often and some for better reasons than others.

Former NBA player Dwayne Schintzius has interesting reasons for why he thought he was traded from the San Antonio Spurs to the Sacramento Kings back in 1991. It was because of his hair!

We get more from Tampa Bay Online:

Former University of Florida basketball center Dwayne Schintzius, of Brandon High, was the NBA draft's 24th overall pick in 1990. He liked the San Antonio Spurs and anticipated a long career there. But Spurs general manager Bob Bass didn't care for Schintzius' "lobster'' hairstyle.

"He told me to cut it,'' Schintzius said. "So I got it cut and sent him the shavings in an envelope. I'm not sure he appreciated that. And then, away I went.''

Clearly if that's the reason why, it's hilarious and will make up for Schnitzius being better known for his role in Eddie as Ivan Radovadovitch.

Barack Obama Not A Good Basketball Coach According to NBA 2K11 (Video)

We all know that USA president Barack Obama has a lot of things on his plate right now and I guess the first president of hoops doesn't have a lot of time to play NBA 2K11.

However, I advise Mr. Obama that if he does, he shouldn't pick himself as a head coach.

Kevin Love To Take Part In NYC Beach Volleyball Tournament

With the NBA still under lockout mode, many players are doing their best to collect some extra cash.

Timberwolves forward Kevin Love has decided to try his hand at beach volleyball and will be competing at next month's Manhattan Beach Open on the ATP Pro Volleyball Tour:

"I thought it was a great idea, a way for me to be out in the sun, be active and have fun during the lockout," Love said Tuesday after practicing with pros for the first time. "It's sport, it's active, it's a way to stay in shape, so I just thought it was a home run."

The Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star doesn't have a partner yet and hadn't played much lately before working out Tuesday on a court set up in Times Square, but says he hopes to survive the first day of the three-day, $200,000 event to be held from Aug. 26-28.

"More than anything, I'm just going to be having fun with it, playing as much as I can up to that point and just working on my craft," Love said.

I feel bad for the person who'll be at the end of a K-Love spike.

Celtics star Paul Piece has been known to make a television appearance or two but not usually on the Home and Garden Network.

However, Pierce and his wife will be making a special appearance on the HGTV show, "Home By Novogratz" about a husband/wife decorating duo to help makeover his high school gym at Inglewood High School in Inglewood, California.

Below is the description for the upcoming show:

NBA All Star Boston Celtic Paul Pierce asks Cortney and Robert to take what used to be an old storage room at his high school alma mater Inglewood High and transform it into a state of the art student-athlete lounge as part of his Truth on Health foundation to help fight childhood obesity. Basketball and children's health are close to Robert and Cortney's heart, so they dive into the project with local designer Suzanne Kisbye tearing up the beat up linoleum floors and turning them into parquee floors, ala the infamous Boston Garden. . . . Paul Pierce and his celebrity friends celebrate the finished space as part of the 2011 NBA All Star Weekend in Los Angeles."

Dennis Rodman Compares 95-96 Bulls To Religion

In a recent Slam magazine article, former Chicago Bull star Dennis Rodman was asked a question about 95-96 Chicago Bulls team and their greatness.

Dennis then responded with this answer:

I always say this about Michael: I call Michael a God. I call Scottie Pippen Jesus. And I’m the Devil. And we worked together with that whole team. Everyone there was so special because everyone knew their roles.

My real question was then what was Dickey Simpkins? Job? Moses? King Soloman?

The article also blessed us with this memory as well when the writer asked about a Michael Jordan story:

I was in my hotel room in Canada and Michael came to my room and saw me lying in bed with Carmen Electra. He just started laughing and said, “Only you, Dennis.”

Andrew Bynum Caught Parking In Handicapped Slot (Photos)

Recently, NBC Los Angeles did an investigative story on whether or not, Lakers center Andrew Bynum parked in handicapped space in Playa Del Ray, California.

As far as we know, Mr. Bynum does not have handicapped status with the department of motor vehicles.

Below is a small excerpt from the article and the exclusive pictures from NBC Los Angeles:

The photos, provided exclusively to NBC4, were taken by an LA Parking Enforcement official at the upscale Bristol Farms Market in Playa del Rey.

NBC4 questioned Andrew Bynum, 23, about the alleged incident as he was getting into his car recently. He slammed his car door and drove off without comment.

It appears the 7-foot-tall Laker, who makes $14 million a year, was breaking the law if he was parking in those spots. Violators who are ticketed are subject to a $353 fine.
