Jason Terry Will Remove Larry O'Brien Trophy Tattoo If Mavs Lose NBA Finals

One of the key components to the Dallas Mavericks championship run is the play of guard Jason Terry.

During the pre-season, Terry got a tattoo of the Larry O'Brien trophy while at DeShawn Stevenson's house on his left bicep and has stated in a recent interview that if the Mavericks do not will the NBA Finals this season, the tattoo will be removed.

We get more from USA Today's Game On:

Terry told reporters on Sunday that he will get the tattoo removed from his right biceps if his Dallas Mavericks lose to the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals.

"I definitely know that it will hurt worse if I have to take this thing off than it did putting it on," Terry said, according to ESPNDallas.com's Tim MacMahon.

McMahon reported Sunday that Terry said if the Mavericks fail to win their first
NBA championship, then it will signify the tattoo was bad luck and that he's "very superstitious."
I guess if the Mavs lose, then Terry will feel the sting, literally and figuratively.

However, there is still one question that I wanted to be answered, "How in the world do I get invited to DeShawn Stevenson's house?"

Huh, Dirk Nowitzki Does Look Like Former American Idol Contestant Bucky Covington

Last week was the finale for season ten of American Idol where Scott McCreery claimed the ultimate prize.

During a skit for Jimmy Kimmel Live, Jimmy went out onto the streets to ask some random folks if they could name previous American Idol winners.

For one of the pictures, he slipped in Dallas Maverick forward Dirk Nowitzki and got a rather interesting response.

I will say though, Covington and Dirk do look very similar.

J.R. Smith Arrested For Riding Scooter Without License

In the annals of NBA lore, many players have been arrested for a myriad of stupid reasons ranging from getting caught with an inhumane about of marijuana, driving while intoxicated, and even assaulting a police officer or two.

However, Nuggets forward JR Smith found a new way to get arrested while in South Beach, he was arrested for driving a scooter without a license.

We get more from TMZ:

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... Smith, who has played the last five seasons with the Denver Nuggets, was not taken to jail for the offense. We're told Smith signed a notice to appear -- he'll get his court date later.
Sadly, the police report didn't inform us of what happened to the scooter but in the end for Jr Smith; "License to Drive" didn't include scooters in Miami.

Renaldo Balkman Helps Lemonade Stand Raise Money For Cancer

In our everyday lives, it's normal to find a kid trying to sell lemonade for personal gain but the below story is something truly inspirational.

Thirteen year old Anthony Frederick mother was diagnosed with breast cancer nearly five years ago. Since he was the age of eight, Anthony has been selling toys and lemonade to help raise money for cancer research in Columbia, South Carolina.

Recently, NBA player Renaldo Balkman heard of his story and came to help Anthony out.

We get more from NBC Sports:

“Selling his toys, what kind of kid does that?” Balkman said in wonder. “That means a lot.”

With Dru Frederick’s cancer in check, Anthony did not want to abandon his fight. He said there were other families in similar situations needing help. “I thought I could bring more people into it,” the teenager said.

Frederick’s father is a colonel stationed at nearby Fort Jackson and Army personnel were also on hand, as did some members of the South Carolina women’s basketball team.

The Frederick family and volunteers were also registering potential bone marrow donors. Tony Frederick is awaiting a matching bone marrow donor.

Balkman said he returns to Columbia every once in a while to catch up with old teammates like Carlos Powell and Brandon Wallace. This time, he’s was glad to spend some time supporting Anthony’s Lemonade Stand.
Finally, a nice story to end the night with. Congrats to Renaldo and Anthony for fighting the good fight.

This Week In NBA Statue News: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Wants One

There are five statues currently sitting outside Staples Center in Los Angeles, California but Lakers great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar isn't one of them and he is not too pleased about it.

Kareem recently told the Sporting News that he felt slighted by not being one of those statues.

We get more from The Sporting News:

"I don't understand (it). It's either an oversight or they're taking me for granted. I'm not going to try to read people's minds, but it doesn't make me happy. It's definitely a slight. I feel slighted."

In a subsequent statement passed along by his business manager, Abdul-Jabbar said: "I am highly offended by the total lack of acknowledgement of my contribution to Laker success. I guess being the lynchpin for five world championships is not considered significant enough in terms of being part of Laker history."
Although, I tend to agree with Kareem on his point, I'm pretty sure that the Lakers will be getting to his statue relatively soon.

Oh by the way, the people featured on those five statues outside of the Staples Center, Magic Johnson/Oscar De La Hoya/Jerry West/Chick Hearn/and Wayne Gretzky.

David Kahn Insists The NBA Draft Lottery Is Fixed

Minnesota Timberwolves general manager David Kahn was not too pleased with receiving the number two pick in the 2011 NBA Draft during the 2011 NBA Draft Lottery.

During the post-interviews after the lottery proceedings, he mentioned to reporters of DraftExpress that he believes the lottery somewhat rigged by using a rather interesting analogy:

The 14 year old boy he refers to is Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert's son, Nick who was the representative for the Cavaliers.

Man Asks For Three More Years On Jail Sentence Because of Larry Bird

It's not often that a prison inmate will ask for more time added to his jail sentence but Eric Torpy has reason why he wanted to extend his.

Torpy was given thirty years in Oklahoma County for armed robbery but then added a rather strange request to the sentence.

We get more from Boston.com:

On October 2005, Torpy asked an Oklahoma County judge to tack on three more years to his 30-year prison sentence for armed robbery and two counts of shooting with intent to kill.

“He said if he was going down, he was going to go down in Larry Bird’s jersey,’’ Oklahoma District Judge Ray Elliott told the Associated Press back then. “He was just as happy as he could be.’’

But after sharing a 10-foot-by-15-foot cell at the Davis Correctional Facility for the last six years, Torpy regrets asking for the extra time.

“Now that I have to do that time, yes I do,’’ says Torpy. “I kind of wished that I had 30 instead of 33. Recently I’ve wisened up.

“That three is a big deal, you know? Three years matters.’’

Torpy will turn 33 this year and is not eligible for parole until 2033.
Clearly his favorite Celtic should have been Robert Parish.

By The Way, Yesterday was "Quitness Day" in Cleveland

Personally, there are many holidays that I like to appreciate and even celebrate myself but Cleveland Plain Dealer writer Bill Livingston came up with one that I think might not stick.

In an article posted on Tuesday, Livingston decided to announce that July 11th will be known in Cleveland as "Quitness Day".

We get more from Cleveland.com:

Wednesday is Quitness Day, the one-year anniversary of Game 5, on May 11, 2010, when LeBron James practically stood on the deck of the USS Missouri, signing surrender papers against Boston. James quit on the court against the Celtics in Game 5 and, just to seal the deal, he quit at the end of Game 6, preparatory to quitting on Cleveland in "The Decision."

Quitness Day, of course, derives from Nike's "Witness" campaign to sell expensive sneakers to poor kids. The concept also gives a tip o' the tankard to Great Lakes Brewing Company, which whipped up a "Quitness ale" soon after James took his talents to South Beach. The ale left a bitter aftertaste.

I called The Q "The Quit" the night of May 11, 2010, in my column. I had no doubt I had just seen the most overpriced dog this side of the Westminster Kennel Club.

To dishonor James on Quitness Day, what will you quit Wednesday?
Good to see that people in Cleveland, Ohio are still getting over this Lebron James. And they say things get better over time, right?

Oprah's Final Shows Could Delay 2011 Eastern Conference Finals

Unless you've been living under a rock, this will be the final season of The Oprah Winfrey Show and the Big O is pulling out all the stops for his final couple shows.

Unfortunately, pulling out all those stops might delay the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals because of Oprah's final show tapings.

We get more from Miami Herald:

The NBA informed a few involved parties before Tuesday’s Bulls game that if the Heat and Chicago win their series in six games or fewer, Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals would need to be moved from Monday to Sunday night because the United Center likely is unavailable Monday to allow Oprah Winfrey’s crew to set up for the taping of one of her final shows. If the Heat or Bulls series go seven games, Game 1 of the Eastern finals would be Wednesday.
So, the only thing that might be able to stop Derrick Rose at this point is the taping of one of Oprah's final shows.

Dennis Rodman Number Retired At Headquarters Gentlemen's Club

Earlier in the season, the Detroit Pistons held a retirement ceremony for Dennis Rodman and his number ten was raised to the rafters at the Palace.

However, that isn't the only place that Rodman's numbers will be retired this season and if you guessed it...it will be retired at a strip club.

We get more from the New York Post:

Class act Dennis Rodman plans to retire his number 10 jersey tomorrow night at jiggle joint Headquarters Gentlemen's Club, where he is hosting his 50th-birthday party. Strippers will don Detroit Pistons jerseys before they sashay onto the floor, we are told. Outrageous NBA star Rodman wants his jersey to hang at the strip club permanently, as a nod to the two big loves of his life -- basketball and women. According to Rodman's rep, Jules Feiler, Charlie Sheen has told the tattooed player he might join him at the bash. "Where else would you expect Dennis to celebrate his 50th?" his rep added.

According to sources, diners at the Upper East Side power spot began clapping when they spotted the New York Knick arriving for lunch with his girlfriend, Ciara.
