Scottie Pippen Gets A Statue, An Awesome Bronze Statue

This year has been a pretty good one for former Chicago Bull Scottie Pippen, he was inducted to the Basketball Hall of Fame and he is now going to be the proud owner of statue outside of the United Center.

We get more from the Chicago Sun-Times:

The Chicago Bulls announced today plans to unveil a bronze statue of Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen that will be displayed permanently in the United Center by the end of the 2010-11 season.

“Not only is Scottie Pippen one of the greatest players to ever wear a Bulls uniform, but he’s among the best players in history of the league to play the game,” said Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. “He had a tremendous impact in bringing six world championships to Chicago and there is no better way to pay tribute to him than with a permanent statue that honors his inspirational career.”

The statue will be crafted by Omri and Julie Rotblatt-Amrany of Highland Park, Ill., who also sculpted the famous Jordan statue which was unveiled in January 1994 in conjunction with Jordan’s No. 23 jersey retirement.

“Words really can’t express my feelings,” Pippen said. “It’s an unbelievable honor and truly amazing. It’s something you dream of as a kid growing up, but you can never foresee those childhood fantasies becoming reality. You see statues of individuals who have done great things and made their mark on history, but as a basketball player, you never really think about arriving at this point. It’s an amazing honor for the Chicago Bulls to do this for me.”
Let's be honest getting a statue of yourself is pretty awesome, so congratulations to Scottie for receiving this honor and hopefully he'll be having a party.

Michael Jordan's Forgotten Wrigley Field Exhibition

A couple nights ago, ESPN debuted one of the movies in the on-going series called, "30 for 30", entitled, "Jordan Rides The Bus".

The film chronicled Jordan's time in the minor leagues with the Birmingham Barons after retiring from the National Basketball Association.

Although Jordan never suited up in an actual Major League Baseball game, he did play in a 1994 exhibition game at Wrigley Field between the Cubs/White Sox.

The below video includes highlights of Michael's day at Wrigley and an interview with legendary Cubs announcer, Harry Caray:

Lebron James Adds Mike Polk/Jim Florentine to Mental Note List

After awhile, I have begun to feel a little bad about the constant piling on about Lebron James leaving Cleveland for the Miami Heat.

However, if this continues to give me great content, I'm still for it. Recently two comedians, Jim Florentine and Mike Polk have been ripping Lebron in two different manners:

(To Note: These videos are so NSFW. Seriously, you could be fired for listening to these at work!)

Mike Polk decided to write a song about Lebron called, "Lebron James is a **tch":

So Lebron James And A Rabbi Walk Into A Bar.....

Normally, we don't care about religious preference of NBA players here at That NBA Lottery Pick, however when Lebron James hires a rabbi for business consultation, we will be there.

We Get More From TMZ:
TMZ has obtained this exclusive photo of LeBron James in a business meeting earlier today with Rabbi Yishayahu Yosef Pinto ... a man known around New York as the "Rabbi to the Business Stars."

Sources involved with the meeting tell us LeBron had hired Rabbi Pinto for spiritual guidance for a "big merchandising meeting" that took place on a private yacht somewhere off the coast of NY just hours ago.

Rabbi Pinto -- a 37 year-old-man who speaks only Hebrew -- has met with all sorts of business moguls in the past ... and is considered by some to be a "spiritual guide" who consults on business matters.

We're told LeBron paid in the neighborhood of 6-figures to get Rabbi Pinto to sit in on today's meeting ... in which LeBron heard presentations from several "big time" retail execs.
Maybe, Lebron should have hired him before "The Decision", he would have told him about the story of "The King and the Wise Man".

Lakers Fans Brawl At Kindergarden Graduation

Usually, I'm not surprised that much when I post stuff here on this site but even this story is rather hard to believe.

During a kindergarden graduation at Puesta del Sol Elementary School, one women was arrested and nearly twenty people got into a brawl. What over you may ask? A Facebook comment regarding the Los Angeles Lakers.

We get more from the Victoriaville Press:

A disparaging remark on Facebook about the Los Angeles Lakers sparked Wednesday’s brawl involving some 20 adults at a local kindergarten graduation, according to one participant.

“This all started because of a Facebook comment between this other woman and my grandmother about the Lakers,” said Queiona Burt, 31, one of the women arrested following a brawl that broke out at a recent Puesta del Sol Elementary School kindergarten graduation. “But I want to apologize to the school and the community and say this is not what I’m about. I was trying to defend myself.”

Burt and Marina Vargas, 29, of Hesperia, were both arrested for being a disruptive presence at a school, but Burt alleges she was attacked by Vargas and several other people. San Bernardino County Sheriff ’s Victorville station officials couldn’t confirm Burt’s story.

According to Burt, she, her 3-year-old son and a friend were outside the cafeteria where the ceremony was being held when she was approached by Vargas.

Burt said they began to argue about the comments made by Vargas and Burt’s grandmother on Facebook when Vargas allegedly attacked her.

The friend stated Vargas and several other people then began to attack Burt, grabbing her by her leg and dragging her across the field.
For those of you that need visual stimulation, here is KCAL's report on the story:

Next time, I go to a kindergarden graduation, I'll make sure to bring Ron Artest.

Lebron James Dunking on Little Kids in San Diego

Probably one of the questions that you have been asking is, "Where in the World is Lebron James?"

Well, the answer would be San Diego at the Lebron James Basketball Camp which is normally held in Akron, Ohio but I think there was a reason behind that change.

The one positives for Lebron James is that he got to spend some time with the kids at the camp. When I mean spend time with them, I essentially mean dunk on them, flip to about 2:35 in the video to see what I mean.

A Tale of Two Advertisements: Lebron's Akron Celebration and Big Z's Cleveland Tribute

Normally, I wouldn't talk about two NBA players taking out advertisements to thank fans for their support after moving to another team. However, when those two people are Lebron James and Zydrunas Ilgauskas, it's gets relatively more interesting.

Two days ago, Zydrunas decided to take out an advertisement in the Cleveland Plain Dealer thanking Cleveland fans for their support of him during his time with the Cavaliers.

Here is a small sample of what the advertisement said:

As I look back on those early days, I realize how lucky I was to have grown up in a place like Cleveland. All of you have taught me the importance of family and friends; of pulling together to get things done; of loving your country.

I've never felt so proud as when I've put on the wine and gold and stepped onto the court.

You would think that Lebron James would decided to do something similar, so Lebron took outhis own advertisement thanking fans in the Akron?!?.

Here is a clip of what he said in the advertisement for the Akron Beacon Journal:

It was here where I first learned how to play basketball, and where I met the people who would become my lifelong friends and mentors. Their guidance, encouragement and support will always be with me.

"Akron is my home, and the central focus of my life. It's where I started, and it's where I will always come back to. You can be sure that I will continue to do everything I can for this city, which is so important to my family and me. Thank you for your love and support. You mean everything to me."
In the advertisement, there was no mention of Cleveland or the Cavaliers organization. So, I guess you can say, he thanked something? I guess.

Geez, who are the ad wizards that are helping Lebron James?

Dennis Rodman in Car Crash, Proven Still To Be Immortal

It's been awhile since we've heard from former NBA player Dennis Rodman, essentially meaning, it's been about two months.

Recently, Rodman had completed a paid DJ event in Florida and was traveling in a SUV that suddenly flipped over. Rodman ending up being okay; he was so okay that his only major injury was a cut on his finger.

We get more from People Magazine:

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman escaped serious injury after riding in an SUV that flipped over on an interstate in Florida.

The former Celebrity Apprentice contestant, 49, and another passenger were unharmed after the Land Rover they were in crashed on Interstate 95 near Fort Lauderdale after having a tire problem, according to Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky.

Rodman walked away "with a little scratch on his finger," his agent, Darren Prince, told the Associated Press. The driver had a gash in his head but was in stable condition, Rodman said.

"I'm still living brother," Rodman told his agent. "They can't get rid of me."
Clearly this means that we need to start genetic testing on Dennis Rodman to figure out how in the world he could be so indestructible.

My theory, sleeping with Madonna is the key to immortality.

People in Ohio Still Not Over Lebron James: Billboard Edition

It's been a fair bit of time since Lebron James decided to spurn Ohio for the beaches of Miami, Florida.

So you would assume by now that people in Ohio have gotten over it and moved on with their daily lives. Well, I guess you can say that's not the case when a marketing company in Akron, Ohio decided to put up an anti-Lebron billboard.

We get more from NewsNet 5:

A billboard says "Welcome Home LeBron," but there is a big red 'X' over home. The second line poses a question: "How does it feel to be a sidekick?," a reference to James' decision to join Dwayne Wade on the Miami Heat. Sidekick is underlined in red. The message then ends with "Go Cleveland!" in gold letters.

The Omada Group, a marketing company in Akron, paid $3,000 for the billboard, which is on Route 18 eastbound between I-71 and I-77, about two miles from James' estate in Bath. The company paid about $3,000 for the billboard, which will be up for about a month.

Matthew Palumbo, one of the principals at the Omada Group, said he hopes the billboard sparks a grassroots campaign to let James know exactly where he stands in his home state since his decision to leave.
Geez, maybe that $3,000 dollars could have been spent on something else besides an anti-Lebron billboard.
